Kuwait driving license renewal is handled by the General Department of Traffic. Licenses expire on the date printed on the card — renew before expiry to avoid fines for driving with an expired license.
Before you renew
- Clear all outstanding traffic fines — unpaid violations can block renewal.
- Complete a fresh eye test if your last certificate is expired or MOI requests a new one.
- Ensure your Civil ID and residency are valid and linked correctly in MOI systems.
Renewal methods
Online (MOI eServices / Sahel)
Many renewals can be started on MOI eServices or the Sahel app when your medical and fine status are clear. Sign in with Kuwait Mobile ID, open driving license services, pay the renewal fee via KNET, and follow pickup or delivery instructions if offered.
In person
Visit your nearest General Department of Traffic office with Civil ID, eye test report, and old license. Take a queue token, submit documents, pay fees, and collect the renewed card or wait for print completion.
Typical fees and timing
Renewal fees depend on license type and duration. Processing may be same-day for in-person visits or a few working days for print-and-deliver options. Track status using MOI inquiry tools if available.
Check traffic fines first using our fine check tool so renewal is not delayed at the counter.
